How To Clean Your Moissanite Jewelry

Most people tend to mistake Moissanite for diamonds. It is a beautiful gemstone, completely colorless & possessing a remarkable sparkle. The other thing that makes it stand out from other stones is the way it transforms the jewelry in which it’s used.

The harder a material, the less easy it is to scratch. On the Mohs Hardness Scale, Moissanite is ranked 9.25 second, only after diamond (10), which is the hardest mineral on Earth. Apart from that, there is not much difference, which makes it one of the most valuable gemstones on our planet.

Cleaning a Moissanite Ring

If you have a gorgeous moissanite engagement ring, a moissanite or diamond necklace, bracelet, or any other moissanite jewelry, you know how essential it is to keep them clean. Cleaning is necessary for the gemstones to shine & sparkle, and their fire to remain.

Moissanite (as well as any gemstones) tends to get dull from the oil from soaps, cosmetics, skin, and your activities throughout the day. Grease & oil can have an impact on their appearance, but a quick clean will fix that in no time! It is preferred you clean your Moissanite & diamond jewelry at least once a month to make them shine, sparkle & look brand new again!

Here are a few simple ways to clean your jewelry to make your Moissanite gemstones sparkle & look their best.

  • Our favorite & easiest (with best results, you can watch the ‘How To’ Video below too)! Hot to warm water, Bi-carb soda, a soft cloth, and that’s it! Want your Moissanite jewelry to look beautiful? Prepare a bowl lined with aluminium foil shiny side up. Place your jewelry inside the bowl and sprinkle with half a teaspoon of bi-carb soda over the jewelry. Pour hot water (approx 100ml) into the bowl, then swirl. Remove & rinse with cool water. Allow to air dry (optional), and then wipe your jewelry with a soft cloth (taking extra time on the gemstone). Then sit back & enjoy that sparkle!
  • Soft toothbrush, dish soap & hot to warm water. Prepare a bowl of warm to hot soapy water first. Use a liquid dish soap to do so (Any type of abrasive cleaner is discouraged). Brush the jewelry carefully  with a soft toothbrush, then rinse well under hot water.Leave the jewelry to air dry (optional), or use a hair dryer or paper towel as you wish. Do this as often as you like.
  • Use a commercial home jewelry cleaner: There’s always the option of buying a non-toxic liquid cleaner for your jewelry. These cleaners are extremely effective in removing dirt & film that accumulates on your jewelry.
  • Ultrasonic cleaners: This method is used by most jewelers before shipping their customers’ orders. They fill the machine with water and a cleaning solution & then place the Moissanite jewelry inside. In a few minutes, when the cleaning process is complete, they remove the jewelry all clean & shiny. This method is not recommended to use outside of a jewelry shop as the stones may loosen caused by the vibration of the machine. When used in a shop the jeweler usually  (or should always) checks for loose stones & retightens before shipping the jewelry.
