Are Diamonds really forever?

The reality is diamonds are not forever. Diamonds are a finite resource, and their value is a result of scarcity. And though they might still be the most valued gemstones, this doesn’t mean there aren’t other gems that can have the same appeal, but without the associated ethical & environmental issues diamond trade brings with it.

Moissanite is a great alternative to diamonds in so many ways, but the most important thing to know is that these gems are an affordable option. Many people choose moissanite over diamonds because it’s a plentiful material that’s still quite rare. It’s also more brilliant than many other gemstones.

Because of its hardness, moissanite can also be used in high-pressure experiments, as a replacement for diamond. Since large diamonds are usually too expensive to be used as anvils, moissanite is more often used in large-volume experiments. Synthetic moissanite is also interesting for electronic & thermal applications because its thermal conductivity is similar to that of diamonds. High power silicon carbide electronic devices are expected to find use in the design of protection circuits used for motors, actuators & energy storage or pulse power systems. It also exhibits thermoluminescence, making it useful in radiation dosimetry.

So not only does it have a beautiful aesthetic appeal… Moissanite also has a highly practical use. What’s not to love about this wonderful almost infinite mineral!
